The Caring Together Memoirs Group had another visit on Monday from the M & S archive. In this session members looked at clothes from the past and reminisced about past fashions and experiences of knitting and darning when money was scarce. This is a great resource to be able to tap into and Caring Together have utilised it on many occasions over the years.
Caring Together members who are taking part in the Write back project in collaboration with Leeds University met up with new and existing Pen Pals at the University last Friday. This was arranged as a meet-up before participating students head off for the Christmas break. It was wonderful for those involved to meet up and everyone took part in a Yorkshire Quiz organised by the University.
Leeds Lions gave a big welcome to Caring Together, our members and many other groups of people last Friday at St Chad’s in Headingley. Billed as an evening of Tea, Entertainment and Merriment, those attending were treated to a choir as well as an appearance by the Lord Major of Leeds, Councillor Jane Dowson, who herself gave the audience a solo rendition of a Christmas Carol. A big thanks to the Leeds Lions for their invite and the very best to them for the future.
Caring Together attended the Leeds Benevolent Society for Single Ladies Christmas Dinner at the Welcome In Community Centre in Holt Park. It was a lovely afternoon for those that are supported by LBSSL. Thanks to OPAL for hosting the event and a huge thanks to LBSSL for all their support to Caring Together and our members this year.
Caring Together held it’s annual End of Year Celebration at Woodhouse Community Centre last Friday. Lots of people had been preparing for the event for the previous 6 weeks in the Singing Together sessions, a collaboration between Caring Together and LUUMIC (Leeds University Union Music Impact in the Community). The event was a great success. Our members did us proud, raising the rafters with their singing and, for Singing in the Rain, producing their brollies with great visual effect. The LUUMIC volunteers also performed a number of solo pieces. What a talented group of people they are. A big thanks to them and we look forward to more joint work with them in the future. More pictures from the Singing Together sessions later in the week.
