31st March is also the day that Cherril retires after 20 years as Caring Together Manager
She will be greatly missed, by our members, volunteers, trustees and especially the staff, and I’m sure you would all like to join us in saying goodbye Cherril, and an enormous thank you for all the amazing work you have done over the last 20 years
We want to wish you all the best for the future and say:
Our 10th birthday celebration in 2005
Caring Together is an amazing 20 years old this year!
And today we are celebrating with a big party at TJs Club in Woodhouse.
20 years of supporting older people in Woodhouse & Little London
We have met some wonderful older people along the way – and we hope to meet more in the next 20 years (and beyond)
So a very happy birthday Caring Together – and many happy returns!
Our walking group were out and about this morning for the first Caring Together walk of 2015.
A walk from St Chad’s Church to Kirkstall Abbey was enjoyed by our group, out in the (almost) spring weather, meeting friends, keeping active and finishing at the Abbey cafe for coffee and cake.
Now that Spring finally seems to be here, the Caring Together Walking Group will resume. They have planned some very nice walks for the next couple of months, starting with a walk from St Chad’s Church to Kirkstall Abbey on Wednesday 18th March. Other walks planned include: a canal side walk from Rodley to Kirkstall, Roundhay Park, Woodhouse to Meanwood Park, Cragg Farm – Horsforth and a riverside walk in Ilkley.
The walks are open to Caring Together members (if you are over 60 and live in Woodhouse or Little London you can join us – it’s free!). If you would like to know more please contact us on 0113 2430298 or email@example.com
Today is Red Nose Day – the major fundraising event for Comic Relief.
Since its launch in 1988, Red Nose Day has become something of a British institution. It’s the day, every two years, when people across the land can get together and do something funny for money at home, school and work.
There’s a fantastic night of TV on the BBC, with comedy and entertainment to inspire the nation to give generously.
Comic Relief spends the money raised by Red Nose Day to help people living tough lives across the UK and Africa.
Here at Caring Together we have been fortunate enough to receive funding from Comic Relief on several occasions over the years and we have been very grateful for this support that has helped us with various aspects of our work with older people in Woodhouse & Little London.
So today, we would like to say a big thank you and wish them well with today’s fundraising
The Pay as You Feel Cafe is at Woodhouse Community Centre again tomorrow. From lunchtime onwards.
Come along for a nice meal – we don’t know what it will be but it’s sure to be delicious! The cost is very reasonable as it is whatever you feel you can pay.
Also today at the Pay as You Feel Cafe in Armley there will be a Knit & Natter group at 4.30pm and a ‘Waste Food Feast’ from 7pm. Details on their Facebook page
Today is International Women’s Day – an event that has been happening since 1911.
So today we would like to say Happy Women’s Day to all our female members and volunteers . It’s a day to celebrate women of all ages and we’d like to ask you to take a moment to think about all the women who have been important in your life – mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, friends, neighbours, carers – the list could go on.
(And, in case you were wondering, International Men’s Day is on November 19th)
