Love Your Lungs
Community Heroes
Caring Together were delighted to be invited to the Inner North West Community Committee Community Heroes award ceremony last Friday at St Chads Hall in Headingley. A large number of local community and activists groups were present representing the areas of Little London, Woodhouse, Hyde Park, Headingley and Weetwood. The awards were presented by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Eileen Taylor.
As well as being made aware of the massive contributions that local groups make to the betterment of life in our city, we were also treated to a wonderful performance by a local Bollywood Dancing School followed by a feast of Asian food.
Many thanks to the local councillors for organising this event and for recognising the work that we do and deeming it worthy of celebration.

I Spy….E.Coli
Every Sip Counts…..
“Did you know… dehydration puts you more at risk of an E. coli infection?”
Thanks Donna (NHS Infection Prevention & Control Nurse Specialist) for sharing your knowledge on E.Coli last week to keep us well. Please see below links to the leaflets she shared with us.

‘Inspired by Digital Technology’
‘Lunar New Year’
Digital technology is tool at our disposal for creative tasks. It can benefit us all. The portability and ease of use of our mobile phones and tablets gives us the ability to share and learn together. Last week, we shared some innovative art quickly and easily with members. In celebration of Lunar New Year, we used a website to enter the year we were born, and out what our animal was. We were also able to practice writing our names on handmade book marks (from Recycled Christmas Cards).
Note: information was sourced from the internet, so we do apologise for any inaccuracies
‘Sharing Mealtimes’
Twice a month we set aside some time to come together and share a meal. Evidence suggests sharing mealtimes is good for your well-being. Lunch time meet ups it gives us the opportunity to socialise, sit and chat together in a relaxed informal way with Caring Together members, supporters and our colleagues.
Our next two in February 2020 will be:
Wednesday 12th February 2020
Meeting @ 12 noon at Little London Community Centre
and on
Monday 24th February 2020
Meeting @12 noon at Fisherman’s Lodge (formerly Bryon’s), in Headingley

No need to book just come along, or call us if you wish to go in together.
‘Shake off those Winter January Blues’
“Thank you to the Caring Together team, volunteers, members and supporters for bringing the event together, for those who joined us, and with making the food and table decorations and helping on the day”
‘Yorkshire Pudding Festival’
Coming to you on the 1st February 2020 in Leeds Kirkgate Market, the World’s first EVER Yorkshire Pudding Festival!
A celebration of the Yorkshire Pudding, an essential part of the Nation’s roast dinners. The Festival is open to all and will host a range of food vendors creating their take on the humble Yorkshire Pudding, mixing, stuffing and smothering them with a delicious array of home cooked dishes from around the world.
In addition to the food stalls there will be a variety of Yorkshire traders selling Yorkshire products. A welcoming bar where you can grab a drink with your chosen dish (or dishes!) and sit back and enjoy the live entertainment that will be on throughout the day.
10am – 4pm
‘Feminist Archive North’
Feminist Archive North hosted a guided look at some of their archive materials last week
“While the archive contains some materials relating to Mary Gawthorpe and the “Votes for Women” campaign, it is dedicated more to events since the 1960s, and display we viewed today concentrated on letters, leaflets, journals and interviews documenting women’s participation and sufferings through crises such as the 1970 Leeds clothing workers’ dispute, the 1984-85 miners’s strike, and the perennial issue of violence against women. Noteworthy too was the collection of scripts by Andrea Dunbar (most famous for the play and film “Rita, Sue and Bob Too”) and items concerning her tragic family history in the Buttershaw area of Bradford.” Alistair
