Saving Energy/Saving Pounds

Groundwork’s GREEN DOCTOR service will be visiting the Wednesday Group on the 31st July

Energy bills are the number one financial concern for households – but 63% of us think there’s nothing we can do about them. At the same time fuel bills are rising. UK homes are among the least energy efficient in Europe and we have one of the highest rates of fuel poverty.

Groundwork’s GREEN DOCTOR service is a practical solution, helping people to take control and to reduce their environmental impact at the same time. The service provides home visits and 1-2-1 advice which can help you use less energy, keep warm and save money!

The Green Doctor service is FREE of charge subject to eligibility criteria.

HOME VISITS

The Green Doctor home visits usually takes about an hour and provide support as well as installing small energy efficiency measures. See below for more details.

GREEN DOCTORS  provide support, information and advice on:

  • Switching suppliers
  • Applying for the Warm Homes Discount
  • Grants for insulation and central heating
  • Energy bills and fuel debt
  • Behavioural changes to reduce costs
  • Managing heating control

GREEN DOCTORS can also install simple energy-saving measures including:

Lunch and a stroll in the Golden Acre

Caring Together were out in Golden Acre Park on Monday for one of our series of small local trips. The weather was kind to us and we were able to sit outside the cafe enjoying the sunshine and having leisurely strolls around the park. If you, or anyone that you know, are interested in learning more about what we offer then give us a call on 0113 2430298.

Woman of substance

Mary Gawthorpe, 1908. (22358671834).jpg

Caring Together visited the Central Library for the 1st session of the collaborative project with Skippko: Are we there yet? Women reflecting on women. This looks like being an excellent and informative initiative. The session looked at the history of local women, in this case, Mary Gawthorpe, an English  suffragette, socialist, trade unionist, editor, and of course a local Woodhouse woman.

M&S Archive Visit

Our links with the M&S Archive continued with a recent visit by them to Caring Together. These visits are always popular and this was no exception.

The Marks in Time Exhibition at the M&S Company Archive celebrates the role that Marks & Spencer has played in peoples’ lives for over 130 years. Here, you can explore the development and impact M&S has had on the social history of Britain. From boardroom battles to staff welfare, from puddings to pants, the exhibition explores how M&S has led the way in innovation, quality and service.
