Our annual sponsored stroll is on Saturday 13th September. A stalwart bunch of Caring Together members, volunteers, staff and supporters take a gentle (or not so gentle) stroll around Woodhouse Moor/Hyde Park to help raise much needed funds for our work with local older people.
We would love you to join us! If you would like to stroll to help a local charity or if you’d like to sponsor one of our strollers, please get in touch in any of the usual ways
Our drop in will not be happening on Monday 25th August because of the Bank Holiday
However we will be back on Monday 8th September, 2pm to 4pm at Little London Community Centre
Anyone over 60 is welcome to call in and see us – ask for advice, find out about Caring Together – or just have a cuppa and a chat!

The term befriending means to act as, or become a friend to someone. At Caring Together we call this friendly visiting. Often over a cuppa this can be to provide company, as well as good conversation. This can be short term or on a more long term basis, that can be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or just occasionally. Our friendly visitors are an amazing team of volunteers, who offer their time for free, visiting members, in their own home, joining them on walks, or just going to a cafe for a coffee. Our friendly visitors can also keep in contact over the phone if this is better for you or just pop in from time to time. For our members and volunteers this is about feeling valued, having someone to listen to you, laugh with, share stories past and present with, and just to enjoy some quality time together.
Is this something you would like to do?
Or, are you a member who would like a volunteer to pop in and see you, or maybe go out for a cuppa with?
If so, please get in touch with Lisa.
Are you unable to do your grocery shopping on your own and don’t have anyone to help you?
Caring Together used to run an assisted shopping scheme and we would like to try and offer this service again, but first we must find out how many people need this so we can decide if it is a viable option. We would plan to pick people up from home with accessible transport and go to a local supermarket where Caring Together volunteers or staff will help you with your shopping and we will help to carry the shopping in to your house when we return. There would be
a small charge to cover the costs of the transport and it would be fortnightly, on a day to be determined.
If you think this is something that would benefit you, please let Valerie or Angela know, and, if enough people need it, hopefully we will be shopping very soon.
Also, if you think you would like to be a ‘shopping volunteer’ then please speak to Lisa about this.

Did you know there is a 24hour helpline specially for older people?
Silverline is a free confidential helpline for older people open every day and night of the year. Specially trained staff can offer information, friendship and advice, link callers to local groups and services, offer regular befriending calls and help protect and support those who are suffering abuse and neglect.
You can call Silverline on 0800 4 70 80 90
And, of course, you can still always call us at Caring Together—but we won’t be here all night!
When you first join Caring Together, we ask you for contact details in case of an emergency. These details often change over time but not many of you remember to tell us! If we do need to contact someone in an emergency we need to have the correct details please.
So if you think there’s chance we don’t have the most up to date details please ring and tell us on 0113 2430298.
Please also remember to tell us if you change your phone number!
