‘Yorkshire Pudding Festival’
Coming to you on the 1st February 2020 in Leeds Kirkgate Market, the World’s first EVER Yorkshire Pudding Festival!
A celebration of the Yorkshire Pudding, an essential part of the Nation’s roast dinners. The Festival is open to all and will host a range of food vendors creating their take on the humble Yorkshire Pudding, mixing, stuffing and smothering them with a delicious array of home cooked dishes from around the world.
In addition to the food stalls there will be a variety of Yorkshire traders selling Yorkshire products. A welcoming bar where you can grab a drink with your chosen dish (or dishes!) and sit back and enjoy the live entertainment that will be on throughout the day.
10am – 4pm
‘Feminist Archive North’
Feminist Archive North hosted a guided look at some of their archive materials last week
“While the archive contains some materials relating to Mary Gawthorpe and the “Votes for Women” campaign, it is dedicated more to events since the 1960s, and display we viewed today concentrated on letters, leaflets, journals and interviews documenting women’s participation and sufferings through crises such as the 1970 Leeds clothing workers’ dispute, the 1984-85 miners’s strike, and the perennial issue of violence against women. Noteworthy too was the collection of scripts by Andrea Dunbar (most famous for the play and film “Rita, Sue and Bob Too”) and items concerning her tragic family history in the Buttershaw area of Bradford.” Alistair

Crocheting is good for you!
Well the jury is still out on this one because a few of us were still left scratching our heads. Yet watching the others who have mastered it, and those still persevering and willing to give it a go I can see that crocheting brings you together, and is so forgiving. In no time at all if you miss a loop it can be corrected. I was going in a straight line, yet, “no problem”, someone said, and it was quickly made into a square. Truly amazing. There is instant gratification of creating small works of beauty in the form of colourful circles and squares that we all felt no matter our contribution.
We are back again this week to continue on. It is open to all
Wednesday 29th January 2020 @2pm – 3.45pm Main Hall, Little London Community Centre, Oatland Lane, Leeds 7

‘Volunteers Meet Up’
This year is special for Caring Together, we are 25 years of age! Our 1st volunteers meet up of the year was last week. We got to plan for the months ahead in addition to discussing what we will be doing to celebrate as volunteers, and Caring Together as a whole for the 25th. We also got to sample some healthy vegan snacks, and discuss activities, lay out and menu choices for our winter warmer event. It was so exciting.
‘Feel Good Bingo’
‘Eating Together’
We enjoyed our first Caring Together Community Lunch of 2020 a few weeks ago. It was delicious. We had some tasty fish pie, quiche, and curried chicken. There was pudding too, yet thankfully we resisted…..for now! The only grumble was that there was too much.
Ways to Unwind!
“Crocheting is an opportunity to relax and unwind: or is it?”
Studies have shown that the hand movement used in crocheting can help keep the mind calm and distracts the brain from the stresses of life. And in this weeks skills sharing session I know for some of our members they would wholeheartedly agree with this. Yet equally for a few the learning process left them a little wound up at times. From grappling firstly with untangling the wool, and then getting to grips with the crochet hooks, and interlocking loops. Nonetheless, as they persevered it was then hugely gratifying to witness their progress.
I was left feeling super impressed by everyone who had a go, and for those who shared their skills, with unwavering patience. We are back next week to continue the relaxing and unwinding process, with a few inspired to bring in some knitting needles too.
