Some of us ventured into town again this week, not for shopping; it was to catch a film, oh and some cake later. We saw ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood’. It was not for everyone yet for those who did like it, there were a few tears, and smiles. Everyone did enjoy sharing some time together though and all left making plans for the next film.

If you are not so confident using digital technology, or just wish to get some advice and would benefit from some support to go through it with you, then please pop along to our Check Your Benefits Entitlement Drop in session on Tuesday 3rd March 2020, 10.30am – 11.30am. We will be in the Computer Room of Lovell Park Hub, Wintoun Street, LS7. We will have tablets to use or desktop computers, or you can bring your own device if portable. We will guide you through the process so you can check for yourself.

The Arts Society, Leeds, hosts a programme of lectures given by some of the country’s top experts on a wide range of subjects including architecture, social history, and the work of artists and designers. Find out more about upcoming lectures on the link below:

Their lectures take place in Castle Grove Hall, Castle Grove Drive, Headingley, Leeds LS6 4BP. They begin at 2 p.m. and finish at or just after 3 p.m. The hall is equipped with an audio loop for the hard-of-hearing. There is ample parking and a ramp for wheelchair access at the hall. There is a comfortable bar, and sandwiches are available before the lecture.

Membership costs £50 per annum. All lectures are free to members. To join, you email membership@theartssocietyleeds.org .

Non-members are welcome to attend for a fee of £7 per lecture.

Caring Together were delighted to be invited to the Inner North West Community Committee Community Heroes award ceremony last Friday at St Chads Hall in Headingley. A large number of local community and activists groups were present representing the areas of Little London, Woodhouse, Hyde Park, Headingley and Weetwood. The awards were presented by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Eileen Taylor.

As well as being made aware of the massive contributions that local groups make to the betterment of life in our city, we were also treated to a wonderful performance by a local Bollywood Dancing School followed by a feast of Asian food.

Many thanks to the local councillors for organising this event and for recognising the work that we do and deeming it worthy of celebration.

A lot of what we do at Caring Together is supported and shared by the community, our members and volunteers. This week we had volunteers helping every day, in the office, out in the community, with web posts and in our regular groups. THANK YOU!

‘Lunar New Year’

Digital technology is tool at our disposal for creative tasks. It can benefit us all.  The portability and ease of use of our mobile phones and tablets gives us the ability to share and learn together. Last week, we shared some  innovative art quickly and easily with members. In celebration of Lunar New Year, we used a website to enter the year we were born, and out what our animal was. We were also able to practice writing our names on handmade book marks (from Recycled Christmas Cards).
