Leeds Credit Union

What is a Credit Union and why should you join?
Leeds City Credit Union is a financial cooperative with 37,000 members that provides straightforward, affordable financial services.
As a mutual there are no shareholders. Credit unions are owned by the people who use their services, and not by external shareholders or investors. So the emphasis is always on providing the best service to members – not maximising profits.
The credit union prides itself on providing members with the most appropriate services based on their circumstances.
Plus, they can be a welcome alternative to payday loans or doorstep lending.
Becoming a member is free and easy to do either online or in one of four branches in Leeds or Wakefield.
Anyone who lives or works in Leeds, Wakefield, Harrogate or Craven or anyone who works for one of our Select Employers, is a resident of certain Housing Associations or people who may be associated with some of our Other Partners are able to join.

Little London Community Day
Caring Together were involved again this year in the organising of Little London Community Day which took place last Saturday. Once again this was a truly community event, well attended with good humour and a really fantastic spirit throughout. Many thanks to all of our volunteers who helped out in preparing for our Tombola, soft toys and Hook-a-bag stalls and to those who assisted on the day.
Despite the weather predictions the sun held throughout the day which always helps.
This day has become a regular event and seems to have settled into its relaxed and informal format and is a credit to all involved.
Saving Energy/Saving Pounds
Groundwork’s GREEN DOCTOR service will be visiting the Wednesday Group on the 31st July
Energy bills are the number one financial concern for households – but 63% of us think there’s nothing we can do about them. At the same time fuel bills are rising. UK homes are among the least energy efficient in Europe and we have one of the highest rates of fuel poverty.
Groundwork’s GREEN DOCTOR service is a practical solution, helping people to take control and to reduce their environmental impact at the same time. The service provides home visits and 1-2-1 advice which can help you use less energy, keep warm and save money!
The Green Doctor service is FREE of charge subject to eligibility criteria.
HOME VISITS
The Green Doctor home visits usually takes about an hour and provide support as well as installing small energy efficiency measures. See below for more details.

Lunch and a stroll in the Golden Acre
Caring Together were out in Golden Acre Park on Monday for one of our series of small local trips. The weather was kind to us and we were able to sit outside the cafe enjoying the sunshine and having leisurely strolls around the park. If you, or anyone that you know, are interested in learning more about what we offer then give us a call on 0113 2430298.
Woman of substance

Caring Together visited the Central Library for the 1st session of the collaborative project with Skippko: Are we there yet? Women reflecting on women. This looks like being an excellent and informative initiative. The session looked at the history of local women, in this case, Mary Gawthorpe, an English suffragette, socialist, trade unionist, editor, and of course a local Woodhouse woman.
