Leeds Pride is back after missing two years due to the pandemic. Every year, Leeds Pride attracts over 50,000 people and the parade through the city features over 100 floats. Yorkshire’s biggest Pride event and it is free!! It’s fully inclusive and everyone is welcome to attend.
The schedule for the main day (Sunday) is as follows:
Events take place throughout the weekend; the Civic Hall will be lit in the colours of the rainbow and will proudly display the Pride flag for all to see; on Saturday a Community Marketplace is taking place in Brodrick Hall, Leeds City Museum from 11am to 4pm where people can find out about LGBT+ services, support and social groups in Leeds.
LCC and the organisers of Pride have tried to ensure that the spaces at Millennium Square and Lower Briggate are easily accessible so that everyone can enjoy the day. There will be a raised access platform in Millennium Square (also known as Accessible Viewing Area (AVA)) which is reserved for disabled people and their carers. Next to the AVA there are changing facilities, toilets as well as wheelchair accessible toilets. There are also accessible toilets in the permanent toilet provision under Millennium Square. There will also be two accessible buses parked on Great George Street. One of which will depart earlier to take people to the event spaces on lower Briggate. This allows those persons to get a position on the AVA on Lower Briggate. The second bus will travel as part of the parade.
Stewards will be available on the day to assist disabled people to find the AVA and toilets in both areas.

The parade route covers Millennium Square, Cookridge Street, The Headrow, Vicar Lane, Kirkgate, York Street, Duke Street, Kirkgate, High Court, The Calls, Call Lane and Lower Briggate and these roads will be closed approximately 13.45 – 16.15
Lower Briggate, Call Lane and Meadow Lane are closed 0400 – 2359.

It was lovely to see this amazing insect hotel in the garden at Woodhouse Community Centre. It was created by the Inkwell gardening group using lots of natural and found materials, this insect hotel is the perfect home for all our beautiful bugs and perfect pollinators!

Leeds Goes Purple

Have you seen those purple bin bags dotted around your area?
If you didn’t know, they’re being filled up by local people who are doing litter picks in your area as part of Litter Free Leeds.
We all know litter is an eyesore and can be a danger to wildlife and pets. Each year 60,000 bags of litter are collected in Leeds by people ranging from individuals, families doing a quick pick as part of a day out or dog walk, to organised groups and even businesses wanting to do something to make a difference in their area.
Litter Free Leeds is organising a ‘Leeds Goes Purple’ weekend starting today and running until Sunday 12th June to celebrate the contributions being made across the city and to spread the news to anyone who wants to join in and do their bit in and around their local communities.

There’s an event celebrating the launch of the Corn Exchange’s new surroundings. It’s at the Corn Exchange from 11am – 4pm and there’s a variety of entertainment, including:

Nearly 1,750 square metres of public realm has been created outside the Corn Exchange by upgrading two existing pedestrian areas and removing the stretch of Call Lane that runs between New Market Street and Crown Street. New seating, trees and sandstone paving are among the design features contributing to the welcoming nature of an accessible space that can be enjoyed day-to-day by shoppers, workers, local residents and visitors alike.

On the second anniversary of the UK lockdown – a day to pause and reflect on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years and on the lives of those we have lost.
Whether a death is recent or long ago, and whether or not it was due to Covid-19, every year there are millions of people bereaved. The restrictions we’ve all been living under have meant that many people have had to grieve without friends and family around them.

Our local councillors for Headingley and Hyde Park ward (which also covers most of Woodhouse) will be holding their monthly Woodhouse advice surgery at our premises tomorrow.
They will be at Caring Together on Charing Cross shopping centre (Woodhouse Street, LS6 2PY – across from the Londis shop/Post Office) from 5pm – 6pm, Tuesday 8th March
