NHS Planned Care Citizen Panel – chance to get involved

Image

Planned care is also known as ‘routine’ or ‘elective’ care. It is treatment that people decide to have to help manage a health problem, rather than emergency treatment.

As we cautiously progress with the move out of lockdown, planned care services that were temporarily stopped are gradually being brought back in the safest possible way for patients and staff.  The Planned Care Alliance is finalising a strategy for how to work together as a healthcare system to address the increased waiting list.

As part of this West Yorkshire & Harrogate Health Care Partnership would like people who have been affected by delays to planned care to join a new Planned Care Citizen’s panel.  This virtual Panel will be in place for twelve weeks from 21 June to 10 September 2021. They are looking for panel members who are currently waiting for a planned care procedure, or who have a close connection with an adult or child affected by the delays to planned care services as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.e

The hope for the panel is that it will represent people from across West Yorkshire and Harrogate, of all age groups, ethnicities, genders and with experience of different health conditions.

More information and details of how to express interest in joining the panel can be found at https://www.wyhpartnership.co.uk/our-priorities/improving-planned-care/planned-care-citizens-panel.  The deadline to apply is 13th June.

If you’d like to talk to someone about the citizens’ panel, you can call: 01924 317659 during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

World Triathlon comes to Leeds this weekend

The World Triathlon is being hosted in Leeds for the fifth time this weekend It is taking place over June 5 and June 6, and all of the races start and finish in Roundhay Park for the first time.

This means there will be a number of road closures and the details are on  Leeds City Council’s interactive map.  Information about changes to bus services is  here

Only a limited area, within the park, will remain open to the public – and Leeds City Council is encouraging people to choose one of Leeds’ other great parks instead,  pedestrian access will be available via the entrances at Park Lane, Mansion Lane and Wetherby Road.

Thousands of athletes are set to compete, from amateurs to elites, and for the first time elite paratriathletes will also be taking to the start line, as the event hosts the World Triathlon Para Series.

However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the event space within Roundhay Park, is limited so if you wanted to go and watch you would need to book a ticket and there are only a few left https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/enter-now/

‘Volunteers Week’

About Volunteers' Week – Volunteers' Week

We are delighted to have the spotlight on our volunteers this week (although for us it is all year round), for volunteers week. And this includes those who usually volunteer but were not able to due to Coronavirus. From all at Caring Together we are sending a heartfelt thanks to you all for being a valued part of our organisation and the community. We salute you all and hope you enjoyed your chocolate treat with your thank you card :). We look forward to celebrating together again soon.

Eyes down for Bingo from our new base last Wednesday

We had bingo in our new premises last week, as well as online. It felt lovely to be slowly using the space as well as being online. It was also an impromptu iPad/Zoom training session beforehand. Those who joined us in the office made themselves at home; got a cuppa and washed up afterwards too 🙂 Prizes will be on their way to the lucky winners in the coming weeks.
.
“it was a good afternoon full of surprises and new ways of getting together” .
.
If you wish to join us for the next one in June just call me: Lisa 07436 530073, or email: lisa@caringtogether.org.uk.

Leeds City Council Coronavirus Update

Header NEW

An update on infection rates in Leeds

The Leeds seven day COVID-19 rate is currently quite stable at 38.2 per 100,000, with the national average of 24.9 per 100,000. The positivity rate this week is 1.5%. Cases have recently been highest in the city in older children aged 10-19 and younger adults aged 20-39. Cases are higher in parts of West Yorkshire, so we might expect case numbers to rise in Leeds as restrictions are eased.

You may well have heard in the news that the latest COVID-19 variant (first identified in India) is accounting for most new cases nationally, particularly in hotspot areas of the country. The number of cases in Leeds is consistent with national trends, with active monitoring and management of those cases.

Enjoying the Bank Holiday safely

The weather forecast for Leeds this Bank Holiday is looking very promising. It will be a great time to catch up with loved ones and friends, but it is still important that we all continue to follow the government guidance to keep ourselves and everyone else safe, even if we have had the vaccine. This means:

  • Washing your hands regularly for 20 seconds
  • Wearing a face covering, unless exempt
  • Making space from those you don’t live with
  • Self-isolating if you have COVID-19 symptoms or a positive test result.

You should self-isolate immediately if you have symptoms or a positive test result for COVID-19. There is financial support for those who are eligible if you’re off work because of Coronavirus.

Stay Safe Bank Holiday

Travelling during the Bank Holiday

We hope that you enjoy this long weekend!

Please plan your journey ahead as there are various major essential infrastructure projects underway which we anticipate to cause some disruption. This includes work on the Inner Ring Road, the Headrow and around the city’s Corn Exchange building. You can see www.leeds.gov.uk/planahead for details.

Also please consider leaving your car at home for shorter journeys and try to avoid travelling during peak times. Our newly expanded park and ride at Elland Road has reopened and bus operators have been working hard to make travel safe by following enhanced cleaning regimes, keeping windows open and ensuring enough space for social distancing. You can check capacity on your bus service app.

There is also signalling work taking place at Leeds City train station and there will be a partial block on platforms 0-6, 8, 9b and 10. Platforms 8 and 9c will still be in use. Some services are offering buses instead of trains. You can find out how you might be affected here.

Parks & gardens

With the weather improving, many will head outdoors and our green spaces are expected to be quite busy over the Bank Holiday. If your chosen location is busy why not check VisitLeeds comprehensive guide of all the amazing parks and gardens across Leeds?

Make sure you plan your visit and travel ahead of time, check for parking space availability and if you are planning on having a picnic, please remember to take your litter away with you if the bins are full.

Vaccination update

As of 24 May a total of 424,769 GP registered patients in Leeds have been vaccinated and 299,557 of those have received their second dose.

Currently people over the age of 30 are being called to receive their vaccine in England. If you haven’t been notified yet, please be patient, the NHS will get in touch. If you’ve been invited but weren’t able to get your vaccine before, it’s not too late to book your appointment.

For more information on vaccine safety and current cohorts, please visit the NHS website.

Can you imagine an excellent bus service for Leeds? (A project by Leeds Civic Trust)

What would make an excellent bus service for Leeds?  Leeds Civic Trust want your ideas to help make Leeds a city with the best bus service in the UK.
Imagine an Excellent Bus Service for Leeds

They say:

As a non-political body representing the community of Leeds, we believe that public transport in Leeds is just not good enough. We think that for a city of Leeds’ importance the bus service deserves to be excellent. Who better to suggest how to do this than the people of Leeds themselves?

We want to engage with individuals, groups and organisations about the bus service, going beyond the usual box-ticking exercise to ask for people’s honest views about how the bus service could improve in the city.

This project will provide a platform for new ideas and discussion on how our buses could (and should!) be improved.

Our ambition is to start a city-wide conversation about buses, to raise the bar, and to help set an ambitious new agenda for the in-coming Metro Mayor to respond to.

We want to encourage some blue skies thinking and gather innovative ideas of how our buses could (and should!) be improved.
Whether you’re an avid bus user or if you’ve never stepped foot on one in your life, we want to hear from you! Find out more about how to get involved in our competition of ideas, discussion groups, interactive map and survey on our dedicated website⬇
